BlogEngine.NET 1.6 is Released

clock February 1, 2010 01:56 by author Ben

The team is proud to announce the release of BlogEngine.NET version 1.6.  With several new features and numerous improvements and bug fixes, this is a must upgrade version for current BlogEngine.NET users and those interested in entering the blog scene.

For those who receive a steady dose of comment spam (and who doesn't!), a new powerful Comment Management and Comment Spam Filtering infrastruture has been added in version 1.6.  Comments across all posts can be viewed, edited, deleted or approved in one convenient area.  Comments can still be manually moderated, but now moderation can be automated by running comments thru remote or local comment spam validation services.  Anyone can easily build new comment spam filters and plug them into BlogEngine.NET.  It's just as simple as adding custom Extensions and Widgets is.

The other notable feature in version 1.6 is support for multiple widget zones.  You can now place widgets anywhere on your site, and even move widgets from one zone to another.

A complete list of new features can be found here.

If you're upgrading from BlogEngine.NET version 1.5 or earlier, please take a minute to read these upgrade instructions.

Congrats on the release. Sadly I woke up this morning to see two of these comments on my blog:

"Oh noh another version has been release this year blogengine 1.6. It has new additional features now it can prevent comment spam filter that has ability to plugin custom filtering modules.It has improve outgoing emails and more improvement and fixes for this 1.6 version. Upgrade instruction is available on
dotnetblogengine.net/.../...ET-16-is-Released.aspx"

"Author information

User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 GTB6"

So apparently the spam protection isn't working, or else I haven't set it up correctly. I have set it to "auto"...

So the script is not available! As a pure information page without the possibility of commenting it is good. Anyone can write anything without specification as comments from real or valid mail address. So the script is not available! Every day 100 of .... spam is not good!

1.6 is great except for that it doesn't work and I'm not smart enough to fix it Frown

Fresh install I get "themes/site.master" cannot be found blah blah no matter what I try!

Read about it here: blogengine.codeplex.com/.../View.aspx

Thanks!

Great news indeed! I just upgraded our company blog and my personal blog to v1.6. I really like the comment management addition. It really makes wading through the comment spam much easier.

Congrats on a great release. And thanks for adding the infrastructure for supporting Incarnate (http://www.visitmix.com/labs/incarnate) so that people can choose their avatar from Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube or XBoxLive when they leave a comment -- and we can quit looking at those default gravatars!

In version 1.6 the UserControls/PostList.ascx.cs the following is causing my theme to break:

int descriptionCharacters = 0;

This is because a few rows down the the line

postView.DescriptionCharacters = descriptionCharacters;

is resetting the preview characters to ZERO! Took a while to figure this out. The line shud be:

postView.DescriptionCharacters = BlogSettings.Instance.DescriptionCharacters;

Is this a bug or am i doing smthing wrong here coz my theme gets fixed with this change but i don't know if i am breaking smthing else in the process!!!??!!?

I don't think the descriptioncharacters shud be hardcoded to '0'.

Keep up the great work, guys!  I am starting a new project soon and I think BE is going to be a good fit, although I will have to do some customization.  Thankfully, it is written so cleanly that making changes should be an utter joy!  Thanks for all the hard work, it is very appreciated.

I've upgraded from 1.5 to 1.6- mostly a great upgrade!  But for some reason, my blog won't show summary text for posts- only "....[More]".  Not a problem with the standard theme, but I cannot find a way to get summary text to work on my theme:

Any advice?
Thanks!
